On Friday, September 20th, the Cold Spring Fire Company (CSFC) was dispatched to assist an injured Breakneck Ridge hiker alongside North Highlands Engine Company #1 and Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (PVAC). Upon reaching the patient on the Undercliff Trail, PVAC determined that the hiker had suffered a severe ankle injury, potentially a sprain or fracture. Due to the nature of the injury, the hiker could not walk out of the woods independently. Utilizing our newly acquired Cascade Rescue litter, equipped with a mountain bike tire and brakes, CSFC members worked with NHFD, PVAC, and New York State Parks staff to safely transport the injured hiker over rugged and mountainous terrain.

As we enter the fall season, we encourage hikers and local residents to exercise caution while enjoying the many hiking trails that traverse our beautiful community.

Interested in joining us? The Cold Spring Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization actively recruiting new members. If you're considering volunteering or have questions about our work, please feel free to reach out via direct message, email coldspringfdchief@gmail.com, or stop by the firehouse any Tuesday at 7 p.m. All are welcome!
